About Poria cocos

Poria cocos is a wood-borne saprophytic fungus that grows primarily on injured trees, fallen logs and stumps.

The Poria cocos prefers subtropical climates with higher humidity, which allows it to grow in areas of East and Southeast Asia, especially in China, Vietnam and Thailand.

This mushroom has been known in China for over 2000 years, where it is used in traditional Chinese medicine.

It is also mentioned in the most famous Chinese herbarium, the Sheng Nong.

Poria cocos is used alone or in combination with other herbs and mushrooms for its various medicinal benefits. These effects include improving blood production, treating eye diseases, strengthening the Spleen and Kidneys, and calming the nerves.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Poria cocos is considered one of the most important medicinal mushrooms. It is especially valued for its ability to remove dampness (Shi) from the body while strengthening Spleen Qi energy (Pi Qi). Pi Qi is the system responsible for the production of Qi and blood, the foundations of our body’s vitality.
