Black hoof mushroom has been known in Asia for millennia and is part of its traditional medicine. It is also mentioned in the most famous Chinese herbal, Shennong, which began to be written during the Han Dynasty about 200 years BC. A pharmacopoeia written by Quan Zhen during the Tang Dynasty describes the use of black hoof mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine.
