About Tremella
The ciliated sundew(Tremella fuciformis), also known as “snow mushroom” or “silver mushroom”, is an integral part of Chinese cuisine and traditional culture. This edible mushroom is prized for its fine gelatinous texture and unique appearance resembling seaweed or jellyfish.
The jellyfish has a long tradition in Asian cuisine and is popular for its ability to soak up the flavours of other ingredients. It is often used in sweet dishes where it is combined with fruit or as part of nutritious broths. When cooked, its texture develops beautifully, which makes it not only flavourful but also visually appealing.
One legend links Tremella to the famous Chinese concubine Yang Guifei (719-756 AD), who lived during the Tang Dynasty. Yang Guifei was considered one of the “Four Most Beautiful Women of Ancient China,” and her skin was said to be porcelain soft due to her meticulous care and use of natural remedies, especially Tremella.
Tremella contains a wide variety of nutrients, including polysaccharides, fiber, selenium, amino acids, and vitamins B and D. These ingredients make it considered a nutritionally rich food. Its polysaccharides are particularly well known for their moisturising properties, which have made it a favourite in the cosmetics industry.
Rosolovka is more than just a culinary experience – it represents a combination of tradition, aesthetics and nutritional values that make it a true treasure of Asian gastronomy.
