Cupping is essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine
TuiNa Therapy
Tuina (pronounced twee na) is a medical massage that has been practised in Asia for thousands of years.
It is a fundamental component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and one of the oldest therapeutic techniques still used across most Chinese hospitals.
Before performing Tuina Medical Massage on a patient, the TCM practitioner will make a diagnosis and then proceed to the treatment involving several hand techniques and manipulations (if necessary) to work along the meridians/channels, which helps re-establish the balance the body needs to remain in good health.
Rather than focusing on one specific problem or symptom, Tuina acts on the body as a whole, balancing the energy flow in all organs, eliminating the root of the problem. The massage will loosen tight muscles, invigorate tired muscles, assist in lymph drainage, promote blood circulation and generally relax the whole body and mind. This approach leads to faster recovery and prolonged well-being.
Tuina can be gentle and relaxing but also very invigorating and works on a deep tissue level.
Tuina Medical Massage can be used on its own or together with Acupuncture, for greater benefit of the patient. In many cases, cupping is also used to achieve a better response from the body.
Tuina is performed either in a seated position or on a treatment couch. Patient is fully clothed and covered with a medical blanket. On occasion special medicated creams are used to increase blood flow and warm the muscles.
What to expect during a typical therapeutic session?
A typical therapeutic session lasts for 50 – 55 minutes. During this time the patient is asked about the condition that troubles him and his health history, diet, lifestyle, sleep patterns, stress, which may all be relevant. Some simple diagnostic checks like pulse taking, tongue diagnostic etc. might be observed to help in selecting the most appropriate treatment path to fast recovery.
Depending on these results, appropriate time will be individually dedicated to either Acupuncture or Tuina Medical Massage Therapy only, or combination of both. Other therapies like Cupping and Bach Flower treatment could also be added.
It is to our prime concern that our patients feel secure and comfortable.
