About Maitake

Maitake ( Grifola frondosa) is a wood-destroying fungus with fascinating properties. This fungus is most commonly found at the roots of live oaks and other hardwood trees.

Maitake is best known in Asia, where it has been prized for thousands of years not only as a tasty ingredient in cuisine, but also for its medicinal benefits.

Historical sources explain why it is called the “dancing mushroom” – mushroom pickers literally danced with joy when they found this mushroom.

Maitake contains many biologically active compounds, including beta-glucans, glycoproteins, griffoleic acid and amino acids.
