About Shiitake

The shiitake (Lentinula edodes, the mushroom fungus) belongs to the disease-causing wood-boring fungi and is a truly fascinating natural phenomenon.

It has a long history of use, dating back thousands of years, especially in China and Japan. Japanese writings state that the Kyusuya tribe brought Shiitake as a gift to the Japanese emperor.

Often referred to as the “queen of mushrooms” or the “elixir of life”, Shiitake is rich in essential amino acids, minerals, B vitamins, provitamin D2 and many other bioactive compounds.

According to traditional Chinese medicine , it supports the human centre, i.e. digestion, which is controlled by the Pi(Spleen) system. This system is responsible for the production of Qi energy and blood, which are the basis of human vitality and immunity. Shiitake also has a tropism for the Fei(Lungs), which means it helps prepare the body to clash with external pathogens.

MycoMedica Shiitake is grown on a substrate consisting of a mixture of sawdust, organic wheat bran, cane sugar and natural gypsum, which guarantees its high quality and effectiveness.
